DUNNELLON, FLORIDA INDEPENDENT VISITOR GUIDE
PACKING & PARK RULES

What to bring. What to leave behind.

Start with your entrance and activity. A picnic at the headsprings, a swim, and a tubing trip do not all have the same rules.

Reviewed October 14, 2026 · Hours and availability can change. Use each place’s current information before leaving.

PRACTICAL PACKING SUGGESTIONS

Pack for the whole day.

Confirm what your operator supplies. The checklist is for planning and resets when this page reloads.

KAYAKING & TUBING

What cannot go on the river?

Use reusable containers

Transfer water and snacks into durable, non-glass containers before launch. Carry only what your operator permits and what you can keep secure.

Leave these behind

  • Alcohol.
  • Single-use drink bottles and food wrappers.
  • Disposable sandwich bags, paper bags, and cardboard packaging.
  • Glass and breakable disposable utensils.

HEADSPRINGS DAY-USE AREA

Swimming and picnicking have different needs.

In the swimming area

Life preservers and swim noodles are allowed. Inflatable tubes, rafts, and balls are prohibited. Tubing and fishing are not allowed at the headsprings. This is deep water with no lifeguard.

For your picnic on land

Tables and grills are first come, first served. Personal chairs, tables, and shade canopies are allowed; tents are prohibited. You must carry picnic supplies along the entrance walkway.

Ask the park about a specific cooler or canopy setup before bringing bulky equipment.

CHOOSE YOUR TUBING OPERATOR

Can I bring my own tube or cooler?

State park tubing

The concession permits a personal single tube up to 80 inches across; bringing your own does not reduce the package price. It also lists personal coolers and cooler rentals. Confirm size and transport arrangements; bags and coolers are inspected before tram boarding.

Use the operator’s designated exit. Its service does not provide an onward float to restaurants or an offsite return shuttle.

KP Hole tubing

Personal tubes are not allowed. The county provides the rental tube; alcohol and disposable items are prohibited. Pets are not allowed, except service animals.

Coolers: confirm first. Check with KP Hole directly about your specific cooler, cooler float, or picnic setup. Do not apply another operator’s cooler policy here.

BRINGING AN ANIMAL

Check the whole itinerary.

At the state park, pets are limited to designated areas and must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet. They are not permitted in swimming areas or park buildings. KP Hole excludes pets, with an exception for service animals. Contact the park or activity operator about service-animal access for the specific activity.

A restaurant’s pet-friendly seating does not mean the park or your tour accepts pets. Confirm both before bringing an animal.

For gear that is not listed here

Ask the park or operator about large inflatables, speakers, drones, grilling equipment, and any unusual setup. Published restrictions can vary by location; a missing item on this page is not a statement that it is allowed.
