Guided or go at your own pace?

A guided trip can be a good way to get oriented, with someone leading the route. A self-guided rental gives you more control over your outing. Neither automatically means an easy paddle: check the direction of travel, length, and expected effort.

Two places to start

Get Up and Go Kayaking lists guided clear kayak tours from KP Hole and describes the upstream paddle as intermediate. Rainbow River Kayak Adventures lists self-guided rentals with shuttle transport. Compare the activity requirements and meeting instructions on the operator’s own page.

Bringing your own kayak?

KP Hole lists a $10 personal paddle-craft launch fee. Launching at the state park headsprings requires carrying your boat approximately 1,800 feet from the parking area; there is no vehicle access to that launch.

Ask these questions before booking

  • Where do we meet, and where do we leave the water?
  • Does the booking include parking, launch fees, a life jacket, and a return shuttle?
  • What are the age, height, weight, and swimming requirements?
  • What happens if thunderstorms or other conditions interrupt the trip?
  • Can the operator accommodate our group’s mobility or access needs?

Let the river stay wild

Give wildlife space, avoid disturbing vegetation, and use designated access points. Riverbank property may be private. Follow your guide’s directions and the posted rules at the launch.
